New Works by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, The Woman Who Reads Playboy for the Blind

Rafael Lozano-Hemmer
Here are a few of the other noteworthy things we saw today on our never-ending journey through the wild, wild Web.
  • Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, one of our favorite tech artists, has a new exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery in the U.K. Several of his older biometric works will be on display, as well as two new ones: 'Please Empty Your Pockets', which scans visitors' belongings with an airport-type scanner and conveyor belt; and 'People on People', which projects live and recorded images of previous viewers into the negative space of your shadow. [From: Wired]
  • These nerds don't quit. 'King of Kong' hero Steve Wiebe has just re-re-taken the title of 'Donkey Kong' master with a 1,064,500-point score. In case you've been behind on your ever-important DK-related news, the weird and unctuous Billy Mitchell beat Wiebe three years ago, only to be bested in March by Hank Chien, who then lost the crown to Mitchell this past July. Dudes, enough with the barrel-hopping. [From: Kotaku]
  • Taping for the Blind is a nonprofit organization that has volunteers record themselves reading printed materials for the benefit of the sightless. One of these volunteers is Suzi Hanks, a radio DJ based in Houston, who was approached to make readings of Playboy for TFTB clients. (Hey, we've all got needs!) She recently did an interview with NPR, which provides very SFW samples of her recordings; she reads the articles as written, but has to describe the photos ad-lib. Fun side job! [From: Gawker]
