Explaining the size of an object has often been an inexact science, but, according to Wired, the Smart Fingers concept could change that. A pair of plastic tubes that
slide onto your finger and thumb (or any finger, really), the Smart Fingers measure the distance between each them by beaming a signal from one finger to the other. Finally, we'll know how big "This big!" really is. The measurement, which can be taken in metric or U.S. units, is determined by how long it takes that signal to beam back and forth. Displayed on an OLED screen, a measurement can be stored on the device, and transferred to a PC via a USB charging-dock. If your fingers are slender, don't worry; the Smart Fingers have a silicon lining that ensures they won't slip off. For measuring long distances, Smart Fingers wouldn't be very practical, but these tiny gadgets would be perfect for any measurement that isn't longer than a person's wingspan -- like the width of a TV or the height of a chair.
