Google Unveils Instant Search With As-You-Type Results

Google Instant Search
Today, Google launched the latest update to the Web search tool that formed the original foundation of its business. Instant Search does away with the need to hit the enter key when performing a search. As you type, Google drops down the familiar suggested terms list, but now the search results are automatically displayed and updated as you type. This lets you scan the results as you continue to type, and therefore refine your query on the fly. That means faster searches and less time spent typing terms and waiting for the page to refresh.

Google claims that the new Instant Search can save the average user between two and five seconds per search, and, with Google's massive user base, that's a combined 3.5 billion seconds per day. As with most Google tools, Google Instant is being introduced slowly -- over the next few days in the U.S., and to the rest of the world over the next week. You can turn Instant results on and off by clicking on the "instant" drop-down menu, located next to the search box (above the "safe search" menu), or simply by clicking here.
