Can Facebook Predict Whether or Not You'll Graduate?

The suggestion is that students who were more active on Facebook were generally more involved at school, both socially and academically. Being more engaged in activities implied that a kid might be more invested in their education as well (although we suspect that rule would only apply to official and sanctioned activities). This data is, however, quite out of date. The research was actually performed during the 2006 to 2007 school year, but, for whatever reason, was not published until now. At the time, Facebook was still a young up-and-comer in the social networking market, and had only just opened up to members outside of colleges and universities. We suspect that, if this study were repeated today, the results might be less clear. [From: Wired, via: Geekosystem]

I wonder If they factored in that people with less friends may not be SHARING as much personal information ON Facebook ...

this makes sense based on my situation. So much of college/university work is based on learning-to-learn. The best way to learn material is to be discussing it, successful students do that. I saw this when I was working on an engineering degree. The kids doing best weren't necessarily the smartest, they were the best at accomplishing the goals... I saw lots of kids drop out because they lacked a social connection to the material.
I think another thing holds true that people who do more have more time to do things. It would seem to be counter intuitive, but I see that people that have more places to go and people to see, do better at work and school because their schedule forces time priorities, to focus on the task NOW as best they can so they can move on, versus the kid sitting at home pounding their head on books trying to force themselves to learn.
