Boomerang Gmail Plugin Lets You Send and Receive Whenever You Want

Boomerang for Gmail
We don't know about you guys, but here at Switched, we get a boatload of e-mails and that's not going to change any time soon. We send almost as many as we receive, too. Truth be told, it can be a little overwhelming sometimes, so we're a little intrigued by Boomerang for Gmail, which promises to help tame your inbox deluge by bringing a few welcome tricks to the Gmail toolbox.

The problem with being buried under e-mails is that it's very easy to lose track of important information. Sure, your bank may send you a reminder that your credit card bill is due, but often it comes a week before payment is actually due. Or, you'll get it while you're in the middle of some more pressing task, and, just like that, paying your credit card gets lost in the shuffle. But Boomerang lets you set a pseudo-reminder to reintroduce you to the message. Just set the timer for a specific time and date, or use one of the included presets, and the note will reappear in your inbox at the prescribed time, just like new.

The same capabilities are extended to sending e-mail as well. Have a meeting tomorrow morning and want to make sure everyone has a particular set of notes right before they walk through the door? Schedule Boomerang to send the message five minutes before the meeting starts. There's no chance that you'll forget to hand out the notes, and no excuses from others about not getting them. It's also really great for scheduling birthday wishes in advance. [Ed. note: We'd NEVER do that!] No more looking like a terrible child because your forgot Mom's birthday.

Boomerang is currently in a closed beta, and is already enjoying immense popularity -- enough, in fact, to "melt" their servers. But hang tight; more capacity should be added shortly. Our one concern is that you must grant Boomerang full access to your e-mail, even though the company promises it only stores headers, and not the actual text of your messages. Now if they could only stop us from sending e-mails too soon, we'd be set. [From: Boomerang for Gmail, via: The Next Web]
