Many of the great treaties and agreements of the ages have been signed in small towns, away from the spotlight. This is a chance for a "small town" in Iowa to become a mecca and gathering place for one reason, and maybe a lesson for those people who have to travel to get there.

If I am not mistaken, Iowa is a major "breadbasket" state, and can possibly show those video-game geeks who will infest the municipality where their munchies come from. A possible place to teach locavore (eating foods grown and processed locally) living, and the benefits of caring for the planet.

May Ottumwa be blessed with many visitors for a long time, and for an expanding economic base for the heartland community.

LPStarChaser

Comments on Video Game Hall of Fame Opens in Iowa, Inducts 'Pac-Man' in First Class

DennyBeMe: If Ottumwa is tiny, what is Podunk? I have been to every Iowa Mississippi river town because that was my auditing territory; you name it: Dubuque, Clinton, Ottumwa, Davenport, Muscatine, Burlington, Keokuk. Am I correct directionally? Did I miss any? I spent 23 weeks auditing in Iowa in 1963; so much I had to pay Iowa non-residentual income taxes. In the late 70's I again traveled Iowa a lot, except by lear jet and to the inner part: Webster City, Council Bluffs, Ames, Des Moines.

Being in my early to mid 20's, I tended to womanize and I still say Iowa girls are the prettiest in the USA; also very sharing. Iowan men are also very polite and clean-cut.

My dad owned a tool and cutter store in Milwaukee and Ottumwa tools were his biggest seller. Speaking of Milwaukee, some easterners think that is a small city; just 2 million metro, much larger than many other major league cities.

So, don't let the writer's bug you. Be proud of where you live. Just don't move to Wisconsin, you'll be imprisoned for spitting on the street. Our governor is a devil - thank God he's serving his last term. Never vote an AG in for governor - Iowa would become a mecca of incarceration, just like Wisconsin.

My favorite Iowa city: Iowa City.

Appreciate your comment; Ottumwa is not a 'tiny' town - it is a small city.

.

Gary Mayer

Comments on Video Game Hall of Fame Opens in Iowa, Inducts 'Pac-Man' in First Class

Don't think that is enough reason to get anyone to go to Iowa

Beverly

Comments on Video Game Hall of Fame Opens in Iowa, Inducts 'Pac-Man' in First Class

Beverly,
You have never been there or you would not say that. Am I the only one who thinks of M*A*S*H Radar O'Reilly? But my big coin game was Tempest (this is EARLY 1980's) Then there was Wizard of Wor (I think it was called) and also there was Moonlander. Ironically, I didn't like Pacman OR Donkey Kong or the rest of the big names! Oh help, I was bored out of my mind, when in 1985 I was dating my future husband and he spent umpity ump time in the arcades! GAWD, how boring! Susan is exactly right Mark. Radar was from Iowa. Klinger was from Ohio (the Toledo Mudhens) and Hawkeye was from California somewhere. And as far as Iowa Vs Wisconsin is concerned. You are wrong about Capt. Notice how the stuffed animal falls out of the gripper? The gripper is ADJUSTED to be just weak enough to drop the prize just as it is lifted. I know, because my store had one, and the contractor adjusted the gripper right before my eyes. He said it would hold the smaller, lighter objects, but the bigger, more expensive ones, those that attracted the customers, would never make it to the drop chute. Don't be fooled.
