There's a load of great tech news happening out there every day, and, unfortunately, we just can't cover it all. Here are a few of the other noteworthy things we saw today on our never-ending journey through the wild, wild Web.
- Your writer has faithfully reinforced his shark phobia over the past few weeks, and has also chronicled the tech that can help us to learn more about these formidable predators. Shark news is everywhere! But has the promotional push for Discovery's 2010 Shark Week gone too far? Go "shark yourself" -- by which we mean, "turn a photo of yourself into some kind of horrible zombie fish-man sideshow" -- with DSC's creepy new Web app. [From: Buzzfeed]
- Retrevo's Gadget Consensus culled info from the nation's gizmo fiends to find out who owns what and where. It's no shock that California leads the nation in green tech (hippies!), that collegiate Massachusetts loves e-readers, and that the "selfish elite" iPad owners cluster in our very own selfish, elitist haven of New York. [From: Retrevo]
- It's curious how a video game like 'The Oregon Trail' can persist in cultural memory even though the original is so foreign to the younguns of today. We can't imagine tweens finding the fake Twitter accounts or the following spoof trailer for 'Oregon Trail: The Movie' funny at all. But, for the senior citizens among us, buffalo meat quandaries and dysentery will inspire nostalgic laughs. [From: Mashable]
- In real movie news, some nerds have been putting together a documentary about Arduinos, the open-source microcontrollers that are all the rage with tech heads. (You can check out the trailer here.) Although we've been able to find precious little info about the film (no IMDB listing), whoever uploaded the trailer notes that the film will be released under a Creative Commons license and get a theatrical showing. Neat stuff, but an open license is probably the best way to go for a doubly obscure niche subject. [From: Boing Boing]
