The IPad is a proven entity and has all the apps to go along with it.  We picked up a 7" e-reader book @ BB & Beyond for a little over $100, retail without discounts $150.  It has all the same options as the IPad is WiFi capable, but not 3G. I love the Ipad, but can't I think the lack of flash and inability to multitask are serious limitations.
