Amazing Daft Punk Helmet Leaves Us Neon Green With Envy

Daft Punk, the French house-music duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, are almost as famed for their masked appearances as they are for their music. Their gold and silver helmets, ablaze with blinking patterns of multi-colored LCD lights, have long been a source for cosplay inspiration. However, this recently finished replica of de Homem-Christo's helmet may take the prize as the best rendition yet.

The helmet was a commission crafted by Harrison Krix of Volpin Props in Atlanta. Construction took over 17 months, and, in his own words, "countless hours, multiple dead ends, [and] hundreds of lessons learned." Krix's painstaking process - which he has generously documented on his website - involved clay and epoxy sculpts, laser cutting, resin casting, gold plating, soldering and more. All his hard work has paid off, though, as proven by the beauty and craftsmanship of the finished piece. Krix would not disclose the cost of the helmet, but did write on his blog that the lighting alone reached $700.

Krix's next projects include a replica pair of Daft Punk's metal-plated gloves, and the shield brandished by 'Legend of Zelda' hero, Link. Those salivating at the chance to own their own helmet may want to bone up on Krix's construction methods, as the designer says he will not be taking any new commissions until September or October. In the meantime, we'll be gazing longingly at photos of Krix's handiwork. [From: technabob, via: Super Punch]
