YouTube Play Judge Panels Announced, Art Aficionados Should Be Pleased

marilyn minter's 'green pink caviar'You aspiring video artists probably remember YouTube Play, the challenge put forth by no less than the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation to find the best art vids on the Internet. As you may also recall, this event, the first biennial of its kind, will exhibit the 20 best entries at each of the Guggenheim outposts in October; and now, the judging panel has finally been announced.

And what a panel it is! Cynics be darned, because here are the luminaries who will view your work: Takashi Murakami (of psychedelic, anime-inspired works); Ryan McGinley (hipster photog du jour, whose pics tend to be NSFW); Marilyn Minter (rainbow explosion videos and photographs with a feminist bent); Stefan Sagmeister (one of the most important graphic designers working today); Laurie Anderson (c'mon, you know who she is); Darren Aronofsky ('Pi' and 'Requiem for a Dream'); and Animal Collective (also needs no explanation). Slightly lesser-known but no less important judges include artists Douglas Gordon and Shirin Neshat, and filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

So far, the site has only received 6,600 submissions, and the deadline ends July 31st. So, if you want a chance to have these culture-makers view your videos, get to YouTube Play now and submit. [From: New York Times]
