Arcade Fire Teases Live YouTube Stream for August 5th NYC Show

Arcade Fire to stream MSG gig on YouTube.
If you can't get a ticket to Arcade Fire's two-night stand at Madison Square Garden, don't fret. According to Spinner, the Canadian indie rock group will stream its August 5th concert in New York City on YouTube. The band recently released a trailer (after the jump) promoting the streaming concert, which will be captained by a well-known director. (Rumor has it, Spike Jonze.) [Ed. Note: We think it's Jonathan Demme.] The trailer features a previously unheard track, 'Rococco,' from the band's forthcoming third album, 'The Suburbs.'

This isn't uncharted ground by any means. The world's biggest rock band, U2, streamed a concert from the Rose Bowl on YouTube last year. And, more recently The National, a Brooklyn-based band, streamed a sold-out show on YouTube in May, the video having been directed by D.A. Pennebaker. The decision worked out well for the band, which saw its latest album, 'High Violet,' debut at #3 on the U.S. charts.

Of course, with the huge following the band has developed, it's almost unfair to call Arcade Fire "indie." But the hands-on notion of streaming the show online is a nice gift to fans, and a move that other bands would do well to emulate. [From: Spinner and Brooklyn Vegan]
