'Back to the Future' Inspired Shoes Really Tie Themselves

The design is simple, if a bit cumbersome in its execution. A pressure-sensitive plate in the heel of the shoe is connected to the impressively versatile Arduino micro-controller. When the Arduino detects that you've stepped into the sneaker, it activates a pair of servos that pull the laces tight. When it's time to slip out of the Hyperdunks, a touch-sensitive switch, mounted on the back of the shoe, reverses the servos.
Bevin's design is a little too bulky to be practical, but here's hoping some sneaker shop picks it up, and gives her invention the miniaturization treatment it deserves. To see it in action, check out the the video after the break. [From: Instructables, via: DVice]

People, seriously? Calm down. I think its a handy idea to save time and those annoying shoelaces that untie and cause you to trip over them.
To those saying people are lazy, let me ask you this. Do you have a car? Clothes washer/dryer? Dishwasher? Stove? Remote controls? etc... Those are all conveniences, not rights, given to you to save time and work effort. Don't say people are lazy unless you take care of horses and ride them to work, wash your clothes in a bathtub and hang them to dry, wash dishes by hand, build a fire to cook, get off your ass to press a button, etc. Its innovation and one day, yes, these will be integrated into shoes to save time and work. Its not being lazy, its being efficient so you can focus on more important tasks then tying a shoe.

Typical misleading AOL headline, as I see it, the laces merely tighten, but are NOT tied. AOL needs different writers. There is a difference between tightened and tied. Though still, having had a stroke which has rendered my entire left side weak and without sensation, they would be great for me. IF they weren't so damned ugly!

The heading wasn't misleading and I think people are over reacting its based off the shoes from bttf2 and only difference is design and sound effects. Those shoes didn't actually tie either they went into the shoes on the side like these ones did but difference is there are laces and the future ones were silverish straps and the bitchin blue lights... in pro these shoes because my mom has MS and can't feel anything in her hands so this is a real moneymaker for so many people they just have to tweak the design to make it more usable and smaller and also I see it in its current state a way to help people build stronger ancles with that motor there as dead weight... maybe less people twisting their ancles walking and being out for a week because of poor health
