VJFranzK Back With Another iTar, Unearthed Films Show NYC In Its Modern Infancy

VJFranzK's iTar
There's a load of great tech news happening out there every day, and, unfortunately, we just can't cover it all. Here are a few of the other noteworthy things we saw today on our never-ending journey through the wild, wild Web.
  • Remember Hot Topic poster-boy VJFranzK, he of the receding-hairline devillock and Mantaray iTar? The mastermind behind one of YouTube's ugliest iPad peripherals admonished us in the comments section of our post, "Short sighted, lack of visipn [sic] - You have greatly underestimated my work," and warned that he had more hideous plans in store. VJFranzK hasn't ditched the 'lock or the cultivated baritone, but he did update the guitar frame to glow in the dark for "an art show." Thumbs up to creativity! [From: YouTube]
  • TIME Magazine is funny. As one of the oldest weeklies still on the stands (but barely -- the mag saw a 34.9-percent drop in newsstand sales in 2009), it's not exactly timely or even putting out great journalism lately. But, as the birthplace of the listicle, it thought itself hip enough to judge the Best Blogs of 2010. We're not complaining that we didn't make the list, and we were happy to see some of our favorites (Roger Ebert's Journal, The Awl and, of course, Engadget!). But we wonder why the magazine didn't list PostSecret and Hipster Runoff with the other overrated blogs. [From: TIME]
  • Historians and Gotham-dwellers take note: the Library of Congress has just released 43 videos from the beginning of the 20th century that show the some of the earliest documentary footage of New York City. Available on iTunesU and at the LOC's YouTube channel and website, the videos offer a nostalgic look back at a time no one still living ever experienced. You've got skyscraper antics, the opening of the Williamsburg Bridge and even a slo-mo, balletic performance by "a street Arab." (Um.) Lack of political correctness aside, they're compelling to watch. [From: Gawker]
