Droid X Gets Official, Coming to Verizon on July 15 for $200

Droid XWell AT&T has the iPhone 4, Sprint has the Evo 4G and T-Mobile... well T-Mobile is really nice. Now, Verizon can play the super phone game too with the official announcement of the Droid X. The specs are exactly what were expected: a 4.3-inch screen, 1Ghz processor, 8-megapixel camera with flash and HD video capabilities, HDMI out and the usual assortment of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. On the software side, the enormous Droid X will be running Android 2.1 with an updated version of Motorola's Blur, and it even comes prepackaged with the Swype typing app and Motorola's true multitouch keyboard.

If you're eligible for an upgrade at any point in 2010, you'll be able to pick one up for $199 (after a $100 mail-in rebate) starting on July 15. That $200 will net you not only a gorgeous media-focused phone with 8GB of internal storage, but also a 16GB microSD card for loading even more videos, music and apps on to your phone.

Like the HTC Evo, the Droid X is among the first Android devices to ship with the ability to be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot, though that luxury will cost you an extra $20 a month and come with a 2GB data cap (overages will run you $0.05 per MB). Most exciting is the expectation that before the summer is over the Droid X will see an update to Android's next-gen operating system Froyo, and added support for Flash. Let's just hope it doesn't suffer from the same battery life issues plaguing the Evo. [From: Verizon, Via: Engadget]
