Nook and Kindle Get Price Cuts, E-Reader War Heat Up

Nook and Kindle Price Cut
This morning, we got official word that Barnes and Noble would be releasing a new model of the Nook that ditches its 3G radio and relies entirely on Wi-Fi for its connectivity. The newest member of the Nook family of e-readers hit shelves at the bargain price of $149.99, making most other e-readers on the market look ridiculously over-priced. To make matters worse for the competition, Barnes and Noble slashed the price on the 3G-equipped Nook to just $199.99.

We knew it wouldn't take long for Amazon to counter, and within just a few hours, the online retailer announced that it was steeply discounting its wildly successful Kindle. In fact, Amazon decided to undercut Barnes and Noble by $10, offering the Kindle 2 for only $189.99. It looks like the e-reader market may actually get interesting (though we wish the Kindle DX got a similar price cut.) [From: Engadget and BoingBoing]
