Droid X 'Coming Soon' to Challenge Evo

Well spy shots have been circulating around the Web for some time, and leaked information let us know it was coming to Verizon, but now it's official, the Droid X from Motorola is "coming soon." The Droid X is essentially Verizon and Motorola's answer to the Evo 4G, minus that all-important 4G part. It packs a 4.3-inch screen, a 1Ghz processor and Android 2.1 as well as a camera capable of capturing HD video.
Interestingly, the Droid teaser site lists the X as having a "720p screen," which seems highly improbable. Leaked information has put the screen at 854 x 480, the same as the Evo 4G, but if the screen is in fact a full 720p HD that would give it the same pixel density as the impressive iPhone 4 display. Chances are the spec is simply a typo, or a bit of tricky marketing speak (it's 720p when looking at it in portrait mode!) but we'll just have to wait for the official unveiling on June 23 to find out for sure. Update: So Verizon quickly backtracked on that whole "720p screen" thing. The teaser has now been altered to read "Captures 720p" clearly in reference to the camera. We can't say we're shocked, but we are a little disappointed. I guess we'll have to wait a little bit longer for a phone to come along and challenge the iPhone 4's "Retina" display.
