Man Behind AT&T iPad Hack Busted for Drugs by FBI

Police arrested the man behind the iPad hack.Last week, a hacker group known as Goatse Security exposed a major security hole in AT&T's site, and gained access to more than 100,000 iPad users' e-mail addresses and ID numbers. Now, the lead hacker behind that breach has landed himself in jail. According to CNET News, the FBI executed a search warrant of 24-year-old Andrew Auernheimer's home in Arkansas, and found cocaine, ecstasy, LSD and multiple pharmaceuticals. "Weev," as he's known in the hacker community, faces four felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor possession charge.

In a letter to iPad users, AT&T claimed it would help investigate and prosecute any illegal activity related to the hack. Right now, it's not clear whether or not the FBI raid was a result of that vow, but, if we were gambling types, we'd bet it was. Either way, after all the national attention Auernheimer received for the attack, you'd think he would be expecting a visit from the police. Having a drug stash is never a good idea for somebody with such a high profile. [From: CNET News, via: Engadget]
