Starbucks Offering Free AT&T Wi-Fi at Stores Starting July 1st

Finally, free Internet access will be available at Starbucks stores across these United States. According to Tech Crunch, chief executive Howard Schultz announced Monday in New York that, starting July 1st, customers can access AT&T W-Fi networks for free while they sip their coffee. Before this move, Starbucks customers could only use AT&T Wi-Fi for two hours with a registered Starbucks card. After that (or if you don't have a card), it cost $3.99 for a two-hour Internet session at the coffee shop. Along with free Wi-Fi access, users will also have special digital content from Yahoo!, which partnered with Starbucks on this venture, stuffed down their throats. Starbucks has also partnered with iTunes, The Wall Street Journal, Zagat and Patch to give customers who access Wi-Fi even more paid content for free.

The New York Times reports that customers spend about one hour on a Wi-Fi network when they visit, and Starbucks doesn't expect that number to jump after July 1st. But that could be wishful thinking. While the average might not increase much, we know a few bloggers who just might log some serious time. [From: Tech Crunch and the New York Times]
