There's a load of great tech news happening out there every day, and, unfortunately, we just can't cover it all. Here are a few of the other noteworthy things we saw today on our never-ending journey through the wild, wild Web.
  • Some creative young things out there may be wondering if they could ever use $600 of breathtakingly advanced technology to build simple robots that shuffle back and forth. Good news! A guy named Terasaki-san hacked both his iPad and iPhone to incorporate some little 30-pin-USB-connected feet and custom software so that his media devices could waddle back and forth with a creepy/cute googly-eye stare. Was it worth it? Sure, why not? [From: DVICE]
  • History geeks and grandpas will love the very beautiful Atlas of True Names app for iPhone. This interactive map lists the original names of cities, rivers, and mountains for those of you who would like to tell everyone that you're from Nieuw Amsterdam rather than Manhattan. The $3.99 app also leads to interesting re-discoveries, such as the fact that Sri Lanka used to be called "Island of Happiness." Tell that to M.I.A. and the Tamil Tigers. [From: NOTCOT]
  • If you're terribly sick of living in this physical world, why not grab a seat at Singularity University? The new program, helmed by some incredibly intelligent futurists and visionaries from Silicon Valley, envisions a time not too far from now when technology and biological life will merge into new forms life so that death, poverty and old age seem like relics of a pre-mechanized past. The whole thing is quite utopian and mind-bendingly convoluted, so you better just read the New York Times' long writeup on the endeavor. [From: NYTimes]
  • Calling all pyromaniacs! We have a very fun video in store for you fire-walkers. YouTube user brusspup brought together civilization's very first technology -- in the form of 320 tea candles -- and created this outrageously good stop-motion animation. Did we mention that he uses those candles to re-enact old-school video games like 'Pong' and 'Tetris'? We can't imagine how long this took, or how many times he burned his fingertips, but it's worth a look-see all the same. [From: The Daily Wh.at]
