George W. Bush Issues 'Inaugural Address' on Facebook, Describes Retirement

George W. Bush on Facebook
A week after emerging from his ranch and joining the world of social networking, former President George W. Bush has finally graced us with his 'inaugural address' on Facebook. In a brief video address, Dubya puts our hearts at ease by telling us that he and Laura are in excellent health, and then takes some time to plug his new book, which he's been "writing" since he left office and rode off to the "Promised Land" of Texas.

As the Huffington Post reports, though, Bush says he's also been devoting time to causes far more important than cleaning up his legacy. Alongside fellow President Bill Clinton, Bush is still working to raise money for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, and has launched the new George W. Bush Institute in Dallas, which focuses on policy initiatives related to education reform, global health, economic growth and women's empowerment in the Middle East. The former President wraps up his address by calling on his fans to share their ideas and opinions about his Institute's mission statement and initiatives.

George W. Bush may have presided over some dark days during his time in the White House, but he's still a powerful man, and one capable of drawing attention to global issues that might otherwise get lost in the shuffle. After shying away from the spotlight for the better part of a year, it's good to see that he's inched his way back into public life, and has apparently decided to directly engage the world with his institution's initiatives. Love him or loathe him, it's hard to find fault with how the man has decided to spend his retirement. [From: Huffington Post]
