World's Fastest Electric Motorcyle Reaches 140 MPH, Powered by 10 Batteries

World's fastest electric motorcycle
The fastest electric motorcycle ever built is set to hit the track today in one of the world's toughest races. According to Popular Science, the MotoCzysz E1pc can reach 140 mph, thanks to its 10 built-in batteries. It has 10 times the battery capacity of a Toyota Prius and 2.5 times the torque of a Ducati 1198 motorcycle. The bike will need every bit of that power during the Isle of Man TT, which features small and windy back roads that have killed somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 racers. The rule of thumb for the Isle of Man is that your bike needs an average lap speed of 100 mph to be a legitimate entry; the E1pc clocked a 94.6 mph lap in practice this week. Michael Czysz, CEO of the Oregon-based manufacturer, told PopSci that his company will continue to develop electric motorcycle technology after the race. However, a version of Czysz's 19.5-pound lithium polymer cells could one day power electric cars, too. [From: Popular Science, via: DVICE]
