NASA's 'Face in Space' Program Could Take Your Mug Into Orbit

Face in Space
Fans of the U.S. space program currently enjoy unparalleled and unprecedented access to the cosmos and cosmic travelers. In keeping with its goal to "inspire the next generation of explorers," NASA actively supports and entertainingly promotes public interaction with numerous outer space endeavors. The organization accomplishes its inspirational goal through a variety of participatory channels, including requests for commercial space flight submissions, pleas for "Pillownaut" research participants and tweeting astronauts.

The organization now wants your pretty little face to grace the International Space Station. Simply upload your portrait (or name) to NASA's Face in Space site, choose between next fall's Discovery and Endeavor launches, and then wait for crew members to plaster your mug all over the ISS. After registering, check back periodically for mission status updates, photographs, links to the tweeting astronauts, and a "commemorative certificate signed by the Mission Commander." Commercial space flight rapidly approaches, but for the 99.99-percent of the public that can't afford the $200,000 ticket, this program will just have to suffice. The only dilemma is whether to strike that unflinching overlord pose or the devil-may-care hero gaze. [From: NASA, via: Wired]
