As soon as
Apple officially revealed the iPhone 4 this Monday, current owners of the device were clamoring to find out if they were eligible for an upgrade. According to Engadget, such users can
dial *639# to receive a text message from AT&T, detailing their personal upgrade eligibility situation. Likely, you'll have two options. You'll either be eligible for an upgrade, which means you can pay $199 for the 16GB iPhone 4 or $299 for the 32GB iPhone 4, or you'll be able to pay $200 for an early upgrade, which will involve a contract renewal with AT&T.
You've got until June 24th to sort through the math, thanks to this handy service from AT&T, it shouldn't be too hard. We received our text message within seconds. Looks like we'd better start saving some cash, because our upgrade won't come cheap. [From:

Yep, you get the text message back in seconds because that's Air2Web's platform under the covers.

selinakpJun 9th 2010 8:16PM
Can you just extend your contract and pay the 18$ fee?
I don't get what "or you'll be able to pay $200 for an early upgrade, which will involve a contract renewal with AT&T"
londonbonetJun 10th 2010 1:12AM
No you cannot, you have to pay the 18.00 upgrade fee if your line requires and it is not just 200.00 if u dont qualify. Its an additiona 200 on the price for early upgrade and retail is even more outrageous......lol
I take these calls on a daily basis....

awesome - am eligible for the upgrade, and with my AT&T Universal Card i get 10% back on the new phone and on my monthly bill.
darkfadedmemoryJun 10th 2010 4:46AM
doesn't work on Apple products.
DarlaJun 9th 2010 8:32PM
It sounds like you will pay $200.00 + $18.00 to upgrade on top of the price of the actual phone. Let me check my pockets.......................... : (
nick99z28Jun 9th 2010 11:07PM
LOL that was so funny and I agree. looks like i will be without till Nov.
DougJun 9th 2010 9:31PM
So what is the final cost?
Who knows as this site does nothing but tell you they will upgrade your phone with no mention of cost
KimmyJun 9th 2010 8:39PM
Ok, I checked AT&T's website to make sure I wasn't sending my info to some weird place....I don't think this article is correct! It tells you if you can upgrade to a iPhone 3GS not an iPhone 4. You can see what I mean at this link:

bajanpatJun 9th 2010 9:02PM
Sorry Kimmy but the article is correct. Read this part: "You'll either be eligible for an upgrade, which means you can pay $199 for the 16GB iPhone 4 or $299 for the 32GB iPhone 4, or you'll be able to pay $200 for an early upgrade, which will involve a contract renewal with AT&T."
channing07_09Jun 9th 2010 10:16PM
the price of the iphone 4 has not been released yet and the early upgrade is not just 200 dollars. you are so incorrect. An early upgrade is were u pay the standard pricing plus an additional upgrade pricing. You need to get your information correct. Anyone can upgrade to the iphone 4 they can always pay the no commitment pricing and get an iphone 4 so just because you are not eligible does not mean u cant get a new iphone 4
zcorex29Jun 9th 2010 11:14PM
Actually, the price of the iPhone has been released. Jobs announced it during his iPhone 4 presentation. Feel free to go to a website like engadget to see it. Also, I believe the writer means you'll be paying an EXTRA $200 for an early upgrade if you don't qualify; plus a possible extra $18 "upgrade fee".

You suck! I have the bundle backage uverse land line two moble lines and I am not eligible you suck I should get two I phones before I change back to comcast and verizon
monteJun 10th 2010 11:42AM
but some time this summer at&t loses its lock on i phone? so u could get sevice for any other company??
yak55mikeJun 9th 2010 10:17PM
I was told less than 2 weeks ago that the iPhone 4 would not be out until a year and I want it and refuse to pay the upgrade fee. I do not mind a new contract but this is unfair as I inquired about it at the timne I bought this phone.
SamSamJun 9th 2010 10:50PM
Well, whoever told you this apparently had no idea what they were talking about because I have been watching the iphone 4 news for the past few moonths and have known it was coming out late june/early july for almost 3 months now. It didn't take much research either, just watching the apple keynotes on their website.
