China Commits to Firm Control Over the Internet

"Effectively protecting Internet security is an important part of China's Internet administration, and an indispensable requirement for protecting state security and the public interest," the paper argues. Citing the risk that Chinese Web surfers could be exposed to material that incites violence, spreads hatred, or advocates "heresy," the government asserted its sovereign right to filter any media that may threaten security. The only way to do that, authorities claim, is with non-stop practice.
As Reuters points out, China currently boasts the world's largest online population, and the government is intent on providing Internet access to even more citizens over the next few years. If China were a smaller, less internationally prominent country, other world leaders wouldn't likely devote as much attention and concern to its policies. But the reality is, the world's economic future hinges on China's economic future. And, as the fast-rising country begins to emerge from its industrial cocoon and starts spreading its entrepreneurial wings, it becomes even more critically important that future Chinese leaders know the world around them. Hey Kevin,
There is a meeting at the Red and Black Cafe in Portland Oregon this weekend to discuss those same lame thoughts as yours. As a matter of fact, those same idiots are there daily. No cops allowed! This is just the place for a small minded person like you and the rest of you that think freedom was just given to us without earning it! You need to quit biting the hand that feeds!

there is going to eventually be a power struggle between usa and china. (not anything to to with the internet). China cant win though, look at its history. in all its years as a nation the boarders of china have never significantly moved and they wont. they are either a defense only nation or they dont have the guts to be like european influenced nations including usa. also it is communist which is such an unsteady form of government that it will soon change to socialism same as russia. that is exactly what carl marx in his book said should be done once communism begins to fail so as to keep the do gooders away. even if its under the name of socialism, it is still really communism. there you have it.

Thank GOD China is the growing powerhouse it is or else we would have these problems. Thank GOD we were able to figure out clever ways to ship our countries industrial might to them so that we could sink into third world status within just a few more generations and we and our children will no longer have to worry about internet trouble. Our children's grandchildren will instead wonder about things like what if we had electricity in what was one time called the USA. What if we had clean running water. Yep, lets get back to the good old simple times of long ago and lets do it as fast as our politicians and big business can sell us out. {And for those of you who don't get it, heavy sarcasm is implied in my statements} However there is truth here too. Look how far we have sank in the last 20 years.

China is experiencing the same bs we've had here for 20 years. The people work themselves to death and companies make a bundle of money. And the media tells us how everyone is doing so well. Except for the income disparity, and the healthcare disparity, and the quality of life disparity, and the education disparity, and the nutrition disparity. There is a huge corporation in China that makes electronics and the workers live in a "walled-in facility" where they not only work, but sleep, shop and do recreation. 10 of them have committed suicide recently...and no one can understand why! People don't like being treated like prisoners. Who knew?????
