Netflix, 'Guitar Hero' and 'Farmville' All Coming to iPhone, Productivity Plummets

Among the less-notable announcements made at this year's WWDC, Steve Jobs and a handful of developers debuted three key apps that are sure to bring in massive amounts of iTunes Store revenue and cause millions of iPhone users to never leave home or see loved ones again.

Netflix

Netflix is coming to the iPhone this summer. Considering that the iPad version was the number one entertainment download, this comes as no surprise. CEO Netflix CEO Reed Hastings did unveil a couple new features, including the ability to pick up wherever you left off, no matter what device you were using before; and you'll also be able to log on from a 3G network (though, we're not sure how well that will actually work). Like the iPad version, all of the Web browser functionality -- like instant queue and recommendations -- will also come standard.

Farmville

Mark Pincus, CEO of Zynga, came on stage to announce a dedicated 'Farmville' app for the iPhone. (Moms across America will swoon.) The 70 million-people-strong user base will be able to interact with their virtual farm just like Facebook (and all of the social networking connectivity of the Web version will also be available in the app). What's either most amazing or most terrifying is the fact that the 'Farmville' app will send you push notifications to, say, let you know when your crops are ready. We shudder. The 'Farmville' app will be available at the end of June.

Guitar Hero

Also new for the iPhone is 'Guitar Hero' -- apparently available today. (We're not sure how this will compete with Tap Tap Revolution, a 'Guitar Hero' clone already popular on the iPhone.) The game comes with classic rock standards like Queen and The Rolling Stones, as well as new artists. A new "strumming" feature utilizes the multitouch mechanics of the iPhone to, in the possibly hyperbolic words of Activision Senior VP Karthik Bala, "make the gameplay perfect."
