Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....
- "Objectionable" Mohammed content recently inspired Pakistan and Bangladesh to implement Facebook blockades. The site eventually relented to pressure from the two nations and various Islamic organizations by removing the offensive page, prompting Pakistan to lift the ban. Bangladesh followed suit on Sunday by removing its barricade to "The Facebook" as well. [From: AFP]
- The international race to construct the world's fastest train system just shifted dramatically to China's favor. Japan, China and the U.S. all rotated at the front of the pack during 2009, but China just gained some serious monetary momentum. The nation hopes to reportedly invest $1 trillion dollars in its 236 mph system over the next 10 years, which already boasts unrivaled average speeds. [From: Daily Tech]
- Punishing teen sexters obviously presents an awkward and disturbing predicament, but should children really be charged with child pornography? Pennsylvania's Perry County District Attorney certainly thinks so, as his office has prosecuted almost a dozen kids for the supposed crime. Other state lawmakers disagree, though, particularly politician Seth Grove, who has proposed legislation which would minimize the punishments for such photo-sharing. [From: CBS News]
- Regulations already require politicians and political organizations to identify themselves during campaign commercials (no matter how blatant the motives or pandering may be). Those same rules may actually apply to social networking practices in Maryland in the very near future. The state's tech-savvy board of elections has already endorsed the proposed regulations, which will now be considered by a review committee before the end of July. [From: Bloomberg Businessweek]
- Although an obvious, heavy favorite, the new iPhone may not be the only Apple gadget to make a debut appearance at today's WWDC. The company may also reveal a peripheral trackpad device which would conceivably connect to laptops and desktops, incorporate handwriting recognition and provide Magic Mouse features -- without the painful RSI, hopefully.
