China Foursquare Ban Linked to Tiananmen Square Anniversary
Really, it was only a matter of time. China already blocks Facebook, Twitter and Google, so it's no surprise to see the geolocation-based social game Foursquare added to that list. Details surrounding the censorship are not entirely clear, as with most things coming out of the country. It is widely believed, however, that the blockage is connected to the 21st anniversary of the massacre at Tiananmen Square.According TechBlog86, which covers social networking and technology news out of China, there has been a spike in Foursquare members "checking in" at Tian'anmen Square. It's believed that many have been using Foursquare as a way of showing solidarity with Chinese dissidents. The blockage may only be temporary, until the anniversary passes and "visits" to the site of the infamous massacre of student protesters quiets down.
However, Foursquare may join the ranks of the permanently banned. Like Twitter or other social networks, it's hard for the oppressive government to control the flow of information across the service. It's much easier for the powers that be to simply (and sadly) block the entire site. [From: Telegraph]

When are we as Americans going to stop supporting this Communist Country?
We need to ban all imports from China, they are poisoning our country. China also supports the North Korea sinking of South Korea's Naval Sub. We are an ally to S.Korea, China is an ally to N. Korea a communist country, how do the American business' justify selling Chinese products on their shelves. It's time to start pusing American made products and supporting our own economy.

It will be up to the American public to stop buying Chinese imports. The U.S. is not going to ban the products cause we borrow money from China. Boycott stores that sell the Chinese products. Urge your friends and everyone on your email list to do the same. But the ban will not work unless the American public is willing to suffer a little hardship and that, I am afraid, is not going to happen.

It's impossible to ban imports from China. They own too much of our debt. If we did that they would bankrupt us wanting to be paid for our debt,. We can all do little things by looking at labels to see where things were made. Itf it says China put it back on the shelf & don't buy it. Simple enough.
DennisJun 6th 2010 2:36PM
There are no American made products left. The unions forced them all out of business or to China.

we keep importing from china, a country with numerous human rights abuses, and kissing their butts...but the government still imposes a trade embargo on cuba. go figure.

sarah: I believe the American government is in the process of taking more control of the internet; what is made in America? everything is shut down!

China is like the little boy with his finger in the dike. He's trying to hold back the flood that is liberty. The problem is that the leaders of this country are trying to make America more like China. They'll have to be defeated, by whatever means necessary.
bobJun 6th 2010 11:41AM
The problem is neither the republicans or democrats have any long term vision for the country.
China falls into the most favored nation category, allowing US companies to export or import freely. Economic opportunities triumph over social issues everytime. If Cuba were bigger we would find a way to end our embargo of them. Who do you have in mind when you say we should vote them out?

Does anyone know where I can buy a king size bedspread NOT made in China? Until I find one I will do without. It isn't really necessary except for looks.

How about at a craft fair? I'm sure an Amish quilt could work quite well although I believe they are rather pricey.
Steve GambleJun 6th 2010 11:37AM
Yopu aren't trying very hard. They are made in India, Pakistan, Peru, Argentina,. Use this thing called the internet and do your looking there. You will find something......China can block site after site but links will be established to other sites and still others more. The Chineese people themselves will move from one site to another all on their own. The Gov't will only be able to slow the inevitable flow of information from outside China to inside China. The more they do business with the rest of the world the more they will be 'infected' by the world. They send there children to other countries for education and when theu return they bring more 'infectous' ideas. The iron fisted grip on information is rusting fasterthan they can rebuild it. Will China be truely free soon? No. But the movement of history and the forces behind them are far greater than any one gov't can stand against.

Oh, Surprise, surprise...
Read your labels...DO NOT but "made in china".
We are so indebt to China, our government won't dare boycott China, but the American Citizens...,or @ least the thinking ones, sure can!
mikeJun 6th 2010 11:27AM
my shoes, jackets and tongs are falling apart, and i still won't buy MADE IN CHINA since all those items are only made there.china supported north korea and north vietnam during those wars.we saved their butts during WWII.i lost my cousin to an anti personel mine in nam in 68.good assumption the mine was made in commi town.
PaulJun 6th 2010 11:33AM
I just read the first six comments. What you are saying just won't work. Our government is rapidly turning us into a third world country. They are in competition with the mafia, and the government is winning.

In regards to the ban, China owns 52% of the Walmart Stock, so what do you find there now but everything from China
CINDIJun 6th 2010 12:43PM
China is trying to take over this country, by killing our kid's with lead in toy's, drinking glasses, posion in our dog food, lead in paint, sheet rock for homes, if it say's MADE IN CHINA PUT IT DOWN AND WALK AWAY, this country need's to keep even their people out of this country, they bring in the germ's that kill us, we realy dont need or want anything form them.............
patJun 6th 2010 12:52PM
china owns us lock, stock, and barrel. bush didn't have the money to go to war against iraq so he borrowed billions and billions from china. we have to be nice to them now...if they called in the debt the world economy would crash worse than it has over the past 7 years.
Mary JaneJun 6th 2010 1:28PM
Glad that finally someone other than me realizes that Viet Nam War was supported by Communist China. It actually was a war between us and Red China with Vietnamese caught between. We're still paying for in terms of human misery and national debt.
We need to get out of Iraq pronto. Why do so many people complain when government spends money to insure millions of uninsured yet cheer on spending billions on this horrible war?
jjmdbsflaJun 6th 2010 1:38PM
Here's what most people fail to grasp; when it comes to money, the vast majority of American's, despite their protestations to the contrary, will sacrifice principles for a few dollars in savings.
donaleeJun 6th 2010 2:04PM
I hate buying foriegn made products that were once made here. I don't care if it is India, South America, or anywhere else. If it was always made in another country I will buy it but not when they take our jobs. I would be willing to pay a little more. BRING OUR JOBS HOME!!!!!!!
And thank you for the offer of making a spread for me but I can sew. Just hate to. HeHe
