FCC Needs 10K Volunteers to Test U.S. Broadband Speeds

FCC Test My IP
With hopes of keeping Internet service providers honest (and hopefully improving consumer broadband education), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is asking broadband customers to help test connection speeds. According to the AP, as part of a study, the FCC wants to install routers that measure broadband speeds in the homes of 10,000 volunteers across the country, part of the large-scale national broadband plan that it outlined back in March.

Results from a phone survey released Tuesday by the FCC revealed 91-percent of the participants said they were satisfied with their connection speeds, but only 20-percent actually knew how fast their connection was. Sign up to participate and study the wide world of tubes at the FCC's Test My IP site. There are a few eligibility requirements, but we expect there won't be much trouble finding eager participants.
