Skype 2.0 for iPhone Brings Skype-to-Skype Calling Over 3G

skype to skype callingSkype 2.0, the latest iPhone (and iPod touch) version of the popular VoIP software, landed on the App Store this weekend, bringing along Skype-to-Skype 3G calls and speed enhancements. No huge surprises here; the upgrade to 2.0 went smoothly, and we had a 3G Skype-to-Skype call up and running a few seconds after opening the app for the first time. The local AT&T connection struggled, but the 3G call still worked as advertised.

Skype explains 3G Skype-to-Skype calls will remain free until the end of the year (and then require a mobile subscription), and calls from Skype to regular phones will begin being charged in August 2010. All Wi-Fi Skype calls will remain free, but stay tuned as the mobile pricing plans get worked out in the coming months. [From: Skype, via Engadget]
