Bootsy Collins Launches Funk University, Guests Include Flea and Les Claypool

He laid the low-end foundation for '70s James Brown and prime George Clinton. He invented, if not perfected, a new way to play the bass. He wears shades shaped like stars. He has a brother named Catfish. He is Bootsy Collins, and he is the funkiest man alive.

Sometimes, though, even the most righteous of soul brothers can go astray, and establishing an online bass school constitutes exactly that. Read Write Web has informed us that July 1st will see the first day of classes for those enrolled in Bootsy's online Funk University. Students will, for a fee, have access to tutorial videos, tablature, exercises and the ear of the good Doctor Collins, himself, during his "office hours." Aspiring virtuosos may be able to glean something from this lesson plan, but -- if you ask us -- fresh-faced funketeers would be better served to do what Bootsy has done, not do what he says.
