Switched Asks, 'What Is a Blog?'
As bloggers, we were heartened to know that most of the people we asked in Times Square actually did know what a blog is. One man was quite fervently opposed to blogs, saying that he had never sought one out himself. (But we're willing to bet he's read one -- and now he's even being featured on one. Bam!) We'll just pretend that all of the negative comments about blogs were directed at those Blogger and Wordpress folk who prattle on about their daily meanderings, children and dreams. We, of course, are of a higher order. We are professionals.

The blog is what it is and you make it what it is. If you just rant or tell silly little stories than you won't have much of a following. It you are a hater and use the blog to attack people you will build an audience that is crazy beyond your belief and it will run away with you. If you are bright and clever you can build a blog that will rival regional magazines in readership. I have noticed that now Obama is in the White House, the same people who used to rail against Bush and tell bizarre stories and allege amazing things (like how he controlled the oil industry while he was the President of the Texas Rangers baseball team) now those same people are offended by the same kind of blogging they used to do. One thing I have learned in life, is that extremism makes you crazy and able to rationalize all kinds of behavior. And in my lifetime the only time I have ever seen speakers on a campus shouted down to prevent them from speaking (as invited guests) was always from the radical left. And now the radical left wants to limit free speech by controlling blogging. Life is odd isn't it?

ah... free speech whatever were they thinking?

A blog can also be used to counter someone, or some groups efforts to miscontrue your character to others with the intent that you get killed over the character they made up for you... You can blog a true story and find other people that have also encountered a group that views you as a threat. But, someone might study their mark prior to acting and a blog can save your life. Trust me, I know.

I am never impressed by snobby blogs like this one, which are not of a "higher order".

Well, we aren't impressed by hyper critical comments, like this one, which we get daily.
As a veteran to the New York media world, I am proud of my writers.
Guys: I think you are amazing.

"people who are about 1/3 as smart as they really are..." WHAT? :D I think, for all his good intentions, he might be about 1/3 as smart as he thinks he is. lol

A Blog is whatever the 'owner'/author *WANTS* it TO BE!
If you don't like the content ~ or the rules of commenting/participation ~ don't go there! No one forces *anyone* to enter the URL, click on the link, or read the content.
And no one is preventing you from STARTing YOUR OWN! That's the BEST WAY to demonstrate your idea of what a great Blog would/would not be!!! (Better than always whining, anyway).
I wish I could've seen the video you all apparently saw ~ but all I got to see was a Pantene commercial ~ as if I don't have enough trouble avoiding tv commercials! =S
Oh well. =)
