6pm.com Burns $1.6 Million After Mistakenly Pricing Everything at $49.99

6pm.comThis past Friday, a small computer glitch cost online retailer 6pm.com a cool $1.6 million, according to parent company Zappos.com. For an unspecified period of time on Friday morning, the brand discount site accidentally capped all of its exclusive offers at $49.99. (Deals that were jointly hosted by 6pm and Zappos were apparently unaffected.) As a result of this bargain blooper, online shoppers made off like looters, and the site took a massive hit. To their credit, 6pm and Zappos decided to honor those purchases, while apologizing for any inconvenience or confusion.

There has been talk of this not being a mistake but a marketing ploy (looking at you, Gawker), but we'll give Zappos the benefit of the doubt. If the site really did make an honest mistake, by admitting the glitch and accepting the pricey consequences, it may have restored our faith in business ethics, as well.
