'Sexiest Video' Virus Infects Facebook Like Mad, Malevolent Malware

Unfortunately for connoisseurs of libidinous cinema, that's the exact form in which the latest Facebook virus has manifested itself. You can easily identify the malware by scanning your friends' Wall posts for a not-so-subtle message that reads, "this is without doubt the sexiest video ever! :P :P :P," and is accompanied by a video titled, "Candid Camera Prank [HQ]." If you're lured into clicking on the video, a fake Facebook application window will pop up and tell you that your video player is out of date, and that you need to download an update if you want some sexy time. If you choose to "update," though, the only thing you'll do is smear the exact same malicious video-link combo all over your friends' Walls.
Whoever wrote this dirty little doodad seems to be making money via something known as Hotbar, a toolbar that latches onto Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer, and then directs users to paid advertisements or search engines. According to Microsoft, the bar may also collect personal information from its victims, and may quietly download other updates from its server.
As the Guardian reports, it's still unclear whether or not the social network has taken steps to counteract the spread of the malware. And it could very well change form over the next few hours, depending on how evil the writer is. But, if you're one of the many people who appear to have fallen into the trap, Sophos's Graham Cluley wisely recommends that you "scan your computer with an up-to-date anti-virus, change your passwords, review your Facebook application settings, and learn not to be so quick to fall for a simple social engineering trick like this in future." Facebook is a waste of time anyway. Who seriously needs to have 500,000,000+ friends and have them know every single detail of your life? Who needs to have a virtual farm where all you do is farm virtual vegetables and get people to post little things there? People have it on their computers and their smartphones...please...just stop the madness!

I check it out just about every day because I moved away from my home state but seriously, those farms and all those other apps seem like a huge waste of time.

Friends are people you can touch and who touch you, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. While some people may say 2 out of 3 isn't bad without the 3rd thing they aren't really friends.

Kim sounds like someone who lives her life; I have facebook but we do have to be careful about letting things like facebook replace real time spent outdoors with our friends & family.

Thank you! I do have a facebook page, but I only accept certain friends that I know, and family. I do none of the games, none of the apps. I only really made it because someone begged and pleaded until I caved. I barely check the thing but once a month if that. And so, deleting anything I don't know and not checking every single little thing out on other's pages, I would never fall prey to this malware that threatens others because they spend so much time on their computers they might as well have a direct USB connection to their brains. Or for those that have Apple things, firewire. ;)

Both side hold up here. Facebook is a great tool in the right hands. No, it doesn't replace real friends, but at the same time, you can use it to keep in contact with real friends that you can no longer physically touch. One of my friends depends on me for emotional support and wishes to God that she could hug me again, but she recently moved to NY so that won't happen anytime soon. Do we all get the picture?
