Copywriter Plays on Ad Executives 'Vanity Googling' to Nab Job

Vanity Google for Alec Brownstein
In this tough job market, prospective employees need to be more creative than ever if they hope to land work. So Alec Brownstein, a copywriter in New York City, recently used some clever self-advertising to snag his dream job. According to Huffington Post, Brownstein bought a Google ad that appeared whenever five top advertising executives -- David Droga, Tony Granger, Gerry Graf, Ian Reichenthal and Scott Vitrone -- performed a "vanity google" of their name. Brownstein's ad, which cost just $6, read: "Gooogling yourself is a lot of fun. Hiring me is fun, too." Believe it or not, four of the five execs interviewed Brownstein because they saw the ad, and two offered him a job. Due to his resourcefulness (and the vanity of some advertising bigwigs), Brownstein now works at Young and Rubicam Advertising in New York City.

Just as we suspected, bosses are actually regularly googling themselves. Still, while this method worked for Brownstein, we wouldn't suggest every unemployed person go this route -- unless you're headed for a similarly egocentric industry. [From: Huffington Post]
