'Pixels' Short Film to Get Adam Sandlerized for the Big Screen

In case you missed Patrick Jean's brilliant short film 'Pixels,' let us remind you. Last month, Jean released the two-minute video, which whimsically imagines that characters from 8-bit video games like 'Tetris' and 'Donkey Kong' invade New York and eventually destroy the earth. The seamless graphics and Eighties nostalgia were a huge hit online, as 'Pixels' received over a million views in less than 24 hours. (We've embedded the film after the break.)

Now, Jean has teamed up with Adam Sandler's production company Happy Madison -- responsible for such classics as 'The Hot Chick' and 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' -- to develop the short into a big-screen feature. Details are still thin, but, according to Heat Vision, the theater version will be an action-comedy in which 'Frogger,' 'Space Invaders' and the like escape their video game confines to wile out on the Big Apple. We're all for lowbrow, watch-the-planet-get-screwed-sideways flicks (like Roland Emmerich's entire body of work), but such a movie complemented by the visual genius of the original 'Pixels' and the Sandler production company leaves us mind-boggled. Oh please, Happy Madison, can you make sure that Rob Schneider gets the lead role? He always makes every movie better. [From: Heat Vision Blog]
