Steam Game Service Finally Live for Mac Users, Productivity Plummets

Steam for Mac
Mac users have been licking their chops in anticipation of Valve's Steam service for ages, and the online game download service finally went live today for Mac OS X users. According to Joystiq, Mac users can purchase 57 titles, including favorites like 'Portal,' 'The Dig' and 'Torchlight.' Over the coming weeks, Valve will release a new set of downloadable games each Wednesday. A new feature called Steam Play also debuted with the launch. With this feature, games you download that are tagged with "Steam Play" can be played across platforms. In addition, Steamwork's publishing tools are now open to developers who want to get their games on the platform, meaning the library should only get larger in the coming months.

Best of all, Valve is offering a few deals for its new user base. At just $9.99, 'Torchlight' is priced 50-percent less for Mac than it is for Windows, and 'Portal' is free for Mac and PC users until May 24th. We're downloading now, and rest assured, we've already kissed our productivity goodbye for the rest of this week. [From: Joystiq and Steam ]
