Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....
  • Another illicit iPhone 4G has surfaced, but raiding homes for answers should prove incredibly difficult for the Apple goons in this particular case. The Vietnamese site Taoviet reportedly dropped $4,000 for the mysteriously gained gadget, which Engadget has identified as housing an A4 processor. [From: Engadget]
  • With Europe's Large Hadron Collider, California's monstrous laser and commercial spaceflight rapidly approaching, techies are currently enjoying an unrivaled renaissance of experimentation. It's almost inconceivable that anyone could top those staggering pursuits, but NASA and the ESA are slamming down the scientific (and galactic) gauntlet. The groups plan to launch three spacecraft in orbit around the sun, and, once the ships are three million miles apart, have them bombard each other with lasers as part of a relativity and gravitational wave experiment. Are we allowed to say BADASS?[From: Pop Sci]
  • Facebook's new behavioral advertising practices and automatic apps system have inspired yet another wave of privacy concerns. One demographic apparently doesn't seem to mind the open and transparent Facebook, though, as a YouGov Brandindex survey indicates that carefree (oblivious) youngsters in the 18-to-34 range are more than satisfied with the site. But, the approval rating from crotchety old geezers past the age of 34 did drop significantly. [From: Wired]
  • Bill Gates's focus on environmental and energy concerns (and his open wallet) will reportedly involve a new plan to fight greenhouse gases and climate change. The philanthropic mogul donated $300,000 to research group Silver Lining in support of its development of a cloud-building system that would suck water from the ocean and spray it into the air, theoretically shielding the earth from the sun's rays. • To fight cyber-attacks, and to "end the reliance on foreign operating systems," the Indian government hopes to develop and implement its own national operating system. Because of the nation's contentious relationship with neighboring Pakistan, its own OS and "an alternate exclusive communication network that is being built for the armed forces," according to the Times of India, might not be a bad idea.
