After 37 Years Apart, Facebook Helps Son Find Father
Andy Spiers-Corbett may have spent the rest of his life never knowing his father Graham was no more than half an hour away, if it wasn't for Facebook. Andy's parents split when he was just two years old. Graham maintained partial custody and visited his son, but he felt the stress of being passed back and forth between parents was too much for the young child and made what he described as "one of the worst decisions" to remove himself from his son's life.37 years later, Andy, now with an 11-year-old child of his own, decided to perform a simple search on Facebook for his father. Although the social network spit back a long list of matches, Andy knew his dad right away, "It was like looking at a picture of me when I'm older," he told the Daily Mail. Since then, the two have been trying to make up for lost time. Graham was introduced to his grandson, while Andy discovered he had three half-siblings, and a host of nieces and nephews.
While some spend hours playing 'FarmVille,' reconnecting with old flames or attempting to stage impromptu high school reunions, others are showing that social networks aren't just a waste of time. [From: Daily Mail]

This is a joy to see, so many people finding lost loved ones via the Internet. My mother and I started looking for my aunts' children about 10 years ago via Ancestry.com It was a long-shot, but last year, I was able to have my aunt meet 2 of her 3 children...after 57 years. Sadly, the reunion is not complete until I can locate her daughter and that will be a very hard thing to do considering the adoptions were private and illegal. After a joy filled reunion with her sons, I had the chance to assist another of my relatives reconnect after approximately 47 years with his son and daughter from his first marriage. His eldest son having already passed away...but knowing his father!
What a wonderful tool the Internet and its' many programs and browsers are and I thank God for it. I was only saddened to see that my mother could not be with us to see our efforts bear fruit.
