Wikipedia Cleans Up Porn, Betty White Facebook Campaign Finally Over

wikipedia cleans up

Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....
  • Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales recently turned snitch on his former Wiki-compatriots, but he probably won't make too many enemies for doing so (outside of the Wikimedia Commons circles, at least). Wales reportedly alerted federal authorities to the presence of child pornography under two separate Commons categories, saying "I was shocked that [child pornography] was on a Wikipedia Foundation site that purports to be a reference site." [From: FOX News, via: Pocket Lint]
  • The 500,000 Facebook members of 'Betty White to host SNL (please?)!' enjoyed the fruits of their labor over the weekend, as the 88-year-old actress propelled 'Saturday Night Live' to its highest ratings in almost two years. Hulu is currently offering the episode in its entirety, along with numerous individual clips. [From: Mashable and Mediaite]
  • President Obama's early tenure featured unprecedented attention to technology, but recent national occurrences haven't exactly been scientifically stellar. Speaking to graduating Hampton University students, Obama actually revealed his own tech ineptitude when he stated, "With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations -- none of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction." So, the Nintendo Wii is still cool though, right? Sweet. [From: AFP]
  • If the old man has been dropping e-reader hints for Father's Day, but the various prices seem a little (or incredibly) outlandish, the Kobo e-reader can provide a basic, relatively cheap option. Available for pre-order through Borders, the $150 model features a six-inch screen and has received favorable reviews. But was 'Pride and Prejudice' really the ideal choice for that Father's Day advertisement? [From: Engadget]
  • Two years ago, 'Little Big Planet' was described as "rather unlike anything else you've experienced on a video game console." A sequel to that social, user-generated game has now reportedly been confirmed, as the June issue of Game Informer is expected to host an extensive preview of the upcoming title. [From: Joystiq]
  • Despite the enormous popularity of 'New Super Mario Bros. Wii,' Nintendo profits recently plummeted for the first time in six years. As a remedy, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has reportedly spurned his apparently already vanquished console opponents, as he has targeted Apple as Nintendo's "enemy of the future." Instead of Apple, maybe he should be more focused on rectifying that whole pesky HD thing. Please? [From: Daring Fireball and Times Online]
