Alabama Man Wins $1 Million by Throwing Perfect Game in 'MLB 2K10'

Gamer Pitches Perfect Game
It's rare that a pitcher achieves a perfect game, where no opposing batter reaches base or scores. And since realism is the focus in sports video games these days, developer 2K Sports figured the feat would be just as tough to accomplish in its new 'Major League Baseball 2K10' game. That's why it offered a prize of $1 million to any gamer who could "throw" a perfect game between the game's March 2nd release date and May 2nd.

According to the AP, a 23-year-old Alabama man was the only person to pitch video game perfection. Wade McGilberry told ESPN that he purchased the game at midnight on March 2nd, came home, fired up the game, picked Kenshin Kawakami and pitched a completely perfect game on his first try. G4TV reported that McGilberry had to accomplish this feat in a special contest mode and provide a video of himself doing it in order for Twin Galaxies, the authority on video game records, to confirm his victory. "It was actually my wife who convinced me to go for it," McGilberry said in a statement to G4. "I never thought I'd actually win a million dollars playing a video game, it's all still sinking in for me."

The couple will pay off their mortgage and save what's left of the prize money. That's a wise way to spend it, especially if McGilberry wants his wife to continue supporting his video game habit. [From: AP/Huffington Post, ESPN and G4TV]
