Amazon Kindle Gets Facebook, Twitter in New Software Update
Arriving late to the party, Amazon will soon release a software update for Kindle that will allow users to browse Facebook and Twitter on their e-readers. According to Gizmodo, the Kindle 2.5 software update, which will see a limited release soon and a wide release in late May, will also include password protection, pan and zoom functions for PDFs, larger font sizes and an option to sort your e-books into collections. Facebook and Twitter integrations mean you'll also be able to share your favorite book passages with friends on the social networking sites, as well as view the most highlighted passages from whatever book you're reading at the time. Similarly, Snarkmarket revealed that you can browse the most-highlighted passages on the Kindle website.
The password and font updates are welcome, but we're not sure we want to bring social networking to our e-reader, even if that means it's more like an iPad. More than anything, it would seem like a distraction from the experience of actually reading a book. [From: Amazon, via: Gizmodo and Snarkmarket]
