Highlights from this morning's other big tech headlines....
- Anyone remember the old Yippie adage, "Don't trust anyone over 30?" Well, Apple is pushing 35, and, according to some folks, it has officially sold out. Discussing the recent iPhone 4G-related home invasion of Gizmodo's Jason Chen, Jon Stewart scathingly lambasted the corporate behemoth, asking, "Remember back in 1984, you had those awesome ads about overthrowing Big Brother? Look in the mirror, man." Seriously, what the hell happened? [From: Daily Tech]
- Not only has Facebook rapidly ascended to become the second most visited website in the United States, but it has also reportedly become the most searched term in the States. According to data from Experian Hitwise, "Facebook was the top U.S. search conducted in the four weeks ending March 27th, 2010." Guess that's good news for phishers and scammers. [From: All Facebook]
- Verizon's FiOS TV service recently added Facebook to its television repertoire last July, and users have since viewed over 15 million social networking photos on their boob tubes. The company just announced that it is adding YouTube and streaming Internet radio services. The FiOS Media Manager will also now be available to all HD subscribers, and not just the DVR customers. - The revolutionary and infamous file-sharing site Pirate Bay is caught in the midst of a heated, exorbitant and apparently imaginary bidding war. Hans Pandeya and his Business Marketing Services, Inc. were reportedly on the verge of acquiring the Bay for $10 million, but, according to the Woodwards and Bernsteins at Torrent Freak, there is absolutely no such deal in place. - Adult contemporary artist John Mayer, once an ardent supporter and incessant user of Twitter, has apparently grown weary of the site, saying, "I don't think it's the healthiest thing in the world to read scads of mentions/@replies." He went on to declare: "Finding out in 140 characters what a stranger has to say about you is like a mathematical equation [blah, blah, blah. More self-important blather. Blah, blah, blah]." But, he did tout the benefits of Tumblr, which we've been hyping for quite a while now. [From: Geekosystem]
- According to the data trackers at Nielsen, U.S. consumers continue to augment their TV collections, with the average household now owning 2.93 sets. DVR use has also increased, as 34-percent of households claim to own or lease a commercial-skipping machine, marking a 10-percent increase from 2009. [From: New TeeVee]
