Boy Scouts' New 'Video Games' Badge Make Us Feel Old and Crotchety

Finally, The Boy Scouts of America has stepped into the 21st century. According to Engadget, Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts and Webelos can now earn a belt loop or pin for playing video games. Of course, with this being a service organization, you don't earn it by racking up a high score. Instead, it's about learning to be responsible and teaching the community about video games.

You can check out all the requirements for the belt loop or academic pin for yourself, but some of them include: explaining the importance of the ratings system, learning to schedule gaming around other responsibilities, comparing the pros and cons of two gaming consoles, playing a game that helps with schoolwork, and teaching adults how to play video games. Sure, none of those requirements sound as exciting as the ones you fulfill on Xbox LIVE, but we applaud the Boy Scouts for teaching some responsible gaming without taking all the fun out of it.

At the least, it might mean we won't encounter as many trash-talking troops of snot-nosed brats owning us in 'Call of Duty.' Otherwise, we're telling their Scout leader, and then they'll never earn that darn belt loop. [From: Engadget and Boy Scouts of America]
