Gamers Refuse to Turn Off Xboxes, Keep Playing 'Halo 2' Online

According to Eurogamer, about 20 gamers who were playing 'Halo 2' simply refrained from turning off their consoles on April 15th, which has allowed them to keep playing the game online. But, as you can imagine, the numbers have dwindled. Not because they can't stand up to this marathon gaming session, but because their consoles can't last. Overheated Xboxes and lost network connections ended a few gamers' online 'Halo 2' days, but according to Geekosystem, there were still 16 loyalists playing the game online as of Sunday afternoon.
We're not sure if Microsoft will boot these folks or just let them ride out in a blaze of glory (or in a smoke-filled room from an overheated console). However, we applaud their effort, dedication and moxie -- or insanity, depending on how you look at it. [From: Eurogamer, via: Geekosystem]

Uhhhh yeah for Microsoft that actually is 100% economically feasible and i have to agree they should keep it up. Many companies have don it an they are far smaller.
Shame on you Microsoft!

It isn't economically feasible for a software company to support their products forever. They should only be required to support their products for about five years.
With that in mind, their copyright on the software should expire at the same time.

I'm still upset they stopped Windows 95 support.

This is really lame. I mean, my sister's little boy is growing up and I was about ready to introduce him to Halo 2. It's a great game, and until now, it had great lasting power. Once again, Microsoft proves it's full of fail.

They should take it off original xbox to save money, but make it run on 360

PC > Consoles
I remember when Microsoft killed the master server for freelancer, did,'t stop the PC community playing online, a fix was made and released.
Maybe someone could hack up a server for the console?

I guess these guys haven't heard of XBConnect

Interesting, i understand the need to continue the fun... but its like EnB and PSO/PSU (PS2 and PC ver) getting shut down. It happens. Progression is what the gaming community wants really, as all the new Halo stuff shows.
Hopefully something good comes from this other than notoriety, cause the internet forgets.

if u download the game to ur hard drive it makes the xbox not work so hard therefore reducing the overheating n making it a happy xbox.

Ahh, reminds me of the good old days where my friends and I would have Halo 2 Lan Parties... Shotty Snipers on Relic FTW!

there should be a song....and, and maybe even a group burial plot with like....like one of those eternal flame things to help distinguish these brave souls for the sacrifices they have and are making. Oh...oh..and we should start a club. Yeah, we could have a special club that only us guys could be a part of...you know, like a secret club only for.....well, yeah, you know. Yeah this is soooo awesome

Look, I love my XBOX and have no desire to get that garbage that MICROSOFT calls the XBOX 360.

For everyone sad about not being able to play Halo 2 (or any old Xbox games for that matter), there is some software online that, if you burn it to a disk and put it into your 360, your 360 will update and you can play all old Xbox games.
Just be careful with online play, as I'm pretty sure the software is against ToS.
