Stranded Due to Volcano Ash, Couple Marries via Skype
The Icelandic volcano that froze European air traffic this year may have disrupted vacations and business meetings for anyone traveling within or through the continent, but it certainly didn't keep one British man from marrying his Australian girlfriend... on Skype.Sean Murtagh, from west London, and Australian Natalie Mead had already been officially married in Brisbane, Australia, but were planning on holding a ceremony for friends and family in London. Then, of course, the volcano thing happened, putting the entire event in jeopardy. Stranded in Dubai, the couple decided to take their vows in their hotel lobby, and broadcast the moment to their friends and family in England, via Skype video chat. According to the Sydney Morning-Herald, fellow marooned passengers joined together to help put the ceremony together, whipping up a three-tier cake, and helping the bride assemble her hair and make-up. Caroline Black, who attended the webcam wedding back in London, said, "It was just like any other wedding except the bride and groom weren't there."
Throwing your bouquet to a group of strangers might not be as special as tossing it to your closest friends, but it's nice to see that the Mister and Missus found a way to capitalize on an extraordinarily unique dilemma, and turn it into an extraordinarily unique wedding. Whereas previous virtual weddings gave us nothing but the creeps, this one gives us only a serious case of the "awww"s. [From: Sydney Morning-Herald]
