Check out
this breathtaking sculpture by artist Kasey McMahon. Composed of "steel, CAT5 and other data cables," the self-portrait 'Connected' envisions the artist as bound by digital culture, or perhaps by an eccentric cable fetish of which we're not yet aware. We're not sure of the dimensions, but it looks to be about life-size. In case you're wondering, McMahon has some other, less sober-looking works like the
Compubeaver (2007) and a handful of pretty spectacular art dresses.
The sculpture itself reminds us of
some of the fragment-y self-portraits of British sculptor Antony Gormley, who's
making headlines for his current exhibition in downtown Manhattan. It's a tough call, though, with this up-and-coming nerd art. Would we rather have one of
Nathan Sawaya's LEGO self-portraits, or 'Connected' in our living rooms? McMahon's cables would surely tie the room together. Zing! [From:
