FarmVille Creators Launch 'Treasure Isle,' Bring Treasure Hunting to Facebook

The latest brainchild of Zynga, company of the monumentally addictive Mafia Wars and FarmVille games, is heading to the tropical with Treasure Isle. As you'd guess, it involves buried treasure... on an island. As the Wall Street Journal reports, each Treasure Isle user is placed on a secluded piece of land where they can dig for gold coins, jewels and Tiki statues. They can then use any excavated goodies to buy hammocks or huts for their home. When they're not lounging or watching the sun set over their computer screen, gamers can harvest fruit in their backyards, which they can 'eat' to gain the energy necessary to waste hours of their lives at the office.
As Zynga's Treasure Isle manager (captain?) Jeremy Verba says, the new game, for all its lustrous novelty, actually combines certain key elements from both FarmVille and Mafia Wars to create a molotov cocktail of luau-laden fun. Islanders, for example, can dress up their home islands in much the same exhibitionist fashion with which FarmVille users show off their land to all of their awestruck friends. At the same time, the mission-oriented, energy-gathering facets of Treasure Isle are rooted in the thug life ethos of Mafia Wars. As Verba explains, "The idea is that you want to mix up fun and accomplishment - 'Look, I'm digging!' - with decoration and self-expression - 'Look at my home island!'"
So far, Zynga's blend seems to have caught on with Facebook users. After launching on April 2, the game already had 2,000 active users after the first day and now, a week later, boasts 7.5 million scavengers. Lazy users beware, though: Treasure Isle, much like its brethren, features virtual goods and energy points that can be bought with real money. So if you don't want to gouge out a treasure-sized hole in your wallet, dig with caution. [From: WSJ]

wow, way to pay attention to what's going on. there's already been several treasure hunting games on facebook. Treasure Madness and Treasure Time were two of the most popular. Get a clue and do some damn research.

Thank you Val, I have the same point. I was at level 70 before I stated getting invites for Treasure Isle. I was also at a high level for Farm Town before Farmville ever came around. I have found that Zynga tends to copy a game very quickly when another company comes out with it. There has got to be some kind of infringement thing going on here.

I have just started Treasure island, but I am really having fun with zoo paradise, I have a grandson, and he loves watching his zoo grow. Its all harmless unless you forget to live in the real world and don't let the FB games control your time with real people.

Hence, the results from time out, family time, sharing your feelings, etc created a new generation of absoloute wimpy losers.

Wesley...I would rather have a generation of "wimpy losers", than a generation of racist, sexist, chauvinistic, abusive, unfaithful, losers who lack morals or a true idea of what is right and wrong.

As with all of the other Zynga games you will have to buy many items that will cost you REAL CASH. They lure you in with regular coin items and then begin to hammer you to have to buy real cash coin items. They did it with Farmville and Petbille and they will do it with everyone of their games.

Guys that create games like farmville are getting rich, lol, while Americans who play this crap are getting stupid and lazy!

Um if you look around in pretty much every medium of entertainment its regurgitated at astronomical rates. So no surprise some 'new' copied game has come out. Secondly its a facebook game......A FACEBOOK GAME. They're the electronic equivelant to those tiger electronic games they gave away for free in McDonalds Happy Meals. To even be a 'story' is an insult. Why even bother mentioning. Anyone who cares already is balls deep in it. Those like myself, were thinking something better may have come along yet to be duped by some really retarded game. I mean whats with the desgins of these games. And why do adults play a game that seems to be intended for infants?
seriously retarded

My Town is a lot of furn. It keeps you busy when you don't have anything else to do. Sometimes it's sort of a pain because of the collections being at different time, but it's still enjoyable because you get to design it for the way you would like for a town to look like.
