Later this month,
Sony will release a new
Walkman speaker system that fits into a car's cup holder and looks a lot like a coffee thermos.
According to Engadget, the RDP-NWV500 is fitted with two-way speakers that will blast 16 watts of Walkman power at 360 degrees inside your car. The device plugs right into your
car's cigarette lighter, instead of using an internal battery. There are two ways to control the volume and song selection: by fiddling with the controls mounted on top of the device, or by using the handy miniature remote control. The latter is probably safer while driving. For those homebodies, the RDP-NWV500 also comes with a dock so you can keep it charged and listen in the house, too.
We're not really sure why anybody would drop $214 on one of these shiny sound docks. It'd be a different story if the device plugged into our car's speaker system. (Forgive us for thinking these
speakers won't offer the same audio quality as the ones in our car.) Not to mention, we'd bet the first time we were late to work, trying to operate this sound dock and drink our coffee at the same time, there'd be an electronic catastrophe -- resulting in a fried device
and an under-caffeinated morning. [From:
