'Metal Gear Solid' Creator: Kill the Console, Let Games Be Free
In the future, video games will become increasingly mobile and less dependent on consoles. Or, at least, that's what 'Metal Gear Solid' creator Hideo Kojima thinks. According to Reuters, Kojima told reporters that he foresees consoles becoming obsolete. "Gamers should be able to take the experience with them in their living rooms, on the go, when they travel -- wherever they are and whenever they want to play. It should be the same software and the same experience," he said at the press conference. (These comments are in stark contrast to those recently made by Nintendo U.S. president Reggie Fils-Aime.) Kojima spoke as he prepared to launch his latest title, 'Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker,' on Sony's PSP. He even called the development of it an "experiment aimed at the future." Kojima's vision for the future might sound great for gamers and developers, but companies who've made big bucks off consoles might not be so glad to see his words prove true. "It's a bold prediction," Sony Computer Entertainment Japan President Hiroshi Kawano told reporters. Bold, yes, but it makes sense for a gaming experience to be independent of a plastic box. Still, what makes sense and what makes money are two different things, so we won't hold our breath. [From: Reuters and Electronista]
