Apple to Discuss iAd Tomorrow, Carrey and McCarthy Announce Split on Twitter

  • Apple's press conference tomorrow will reportedly focus on iPhone OS 4.0, but the company may also make another announcement concerning its recent acquisition of Quattro Wireless. According to various reports, Apple plans to reveal its development of a personalized mobile advertising system known as iAd. [From: Engadget]
  • It's not often that TMZ and the other celebrity sites get scooped on Hollywood news, but Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey decided to bypass those sensationalist stalkers in order to break a bit of information straight to their fans and followers. The couple has decided to (from appearances, at least) amicably split, and has revealed the break-up via their respective Twitter accounts. [From: Reuters]
  • By colliding calcium isotopes and berkelium, a group of scientists have discovered a new, incredibly heavy element. The element has been temporarily named ununseptium, based on its newly adorned atomic number of 117, but the scientists plan to change it -- perhaps in honor of one of the discoverers. Let's hope it happens soon, because right now the unfortunate moniker sounds somewhat like a procedure to reverse a nasal defect. [From: Geekosystem]
  • CEO Jay Adelman recently announced his departure from Digg, and today the site revealed some significant changes to its principles and design. The site is lifting content restrictions, and will no longer ban certain domains. It is also eliminating the Digg toolbar, which formerly appeared at the top of linked stories.   • In 2008, AOL purchased the social networking service Bebo for the exorbitant fee of $850 million. The company has now announced that because of "declining" business, it must sell or completely eliminate Bebo, which was tarnished by a teen suicide scandal in England. [From: CNET]
